First, we had the NES Classic Mini Console, then we had the SNES Classic Mini Console, so you would think that the Nintendo 64 Mini would follow right? Well, it’s been years and despite the nostalgia addicted begging Nintendo to release a classic version of this beloved retro console, there are no signs of a release date. So, it’s got us cozy retro gamers asking, will there be a release date for the Nintendo 64 mini?
Will There be a Release Date for the Nintendo 64 Mini?
Personally, I feel like it would be a no. Despite the success of the NES Mini and SNES Mini, there are zero signs that a N64 Mini will be released. Afterall, gaming has shifted dramatically over the course of a few small years to an online, digital format. Although physical copies haven’t disappeared completely, there are many companies that prefer to sell their services online.
Take Nintendo for example, back in 2016 they gave us nostalgia addicts a throwback with their physical emulators, with SEGA and SONY following example- but not really seeing much success, but now their main focus seems to be selling their subscription service - Nintendo Online.
Opting for the most expensive service allows cozy retro gamers to download a range of their beloved childhood games, including N64 Games. For this reason alone, I really doubt that Nintendo has plans to release a Nintendo 64 Mini, especially when just uploading games to their services is a lot cheaper.
But a retro gamer can dream, right?
Nintendo 64 Classic Mini Games List
Calm down! This isn’t a confirmed list. This is just a fantasy list. Here are the games that I would include if I was in charge of creating the Nintendo 64 Mini!
Super Mario 64
There is no denying that Super Mario 64 was a groundbreaking entry into 3D platforming, setting a new standard for adventure games and platformers in general. In this cozy retro game, players navigate through various levels accessible via paintings in Princess Peach’s castle, collecting Power Stars in order to rescue her from Bowser. Each level presents unique challenges and puzzles to overcome.
Why it’s Great for N64 Mini: Come on, this game is an absolute classic and defined the platforming genre at the time, and its intuitive controls and captivating level designs make It perfect for both new and nostalgic players. It remains a beloved classic that showcases the capabilities of the N64 and provides that sense of nostalgia and wonder that cozy retro gamers love!
Super Mario Kart 64
Super Mario Kart 64 is a classic kart racing game that features a cast of iconic characters from the Mario franchise. Yes, you can even play as Bowser. Players can compete alone or with a friend to race through many vibrant and colourful tracks, filled with power-ups and hazards. Its gameplay and overall premise is simple; however, it provides hours of fun nonetheless!
Why it’s Great for N64 Mini: Somewhat of a pioneer of the kart racing genre, Mario Kart 64 offers fun, competitive gameplay. Its multiplayer aspect is perfect for a mini console, allowing friends and family to engage in exhilarating races and battles, reviving classic gaming sessions. Plus, wouldn’t it be great just to gather around one console again and play games together like the good old days?
Mario Party 2
Building on its predecessor, Mario Party 2 includes plenty of themed boards and even more minigames to enjoy. Characters even dress in costumes, matching the board’s theme, with the game even introducing new items that enhance the strategic elements. Overall, Mario Party 2 is a fun party game that you can play alone or with friends and family for hours of fun, competitive gameplay.
Why it’s Great for N64 Mini: With a pizza and a couple of beers, Mario Party 2 would make a perfect addition to any Friday and would be perfect for including on the N64 Mini. With more dynamic boards and strategic options, it provides a fresh and fun experience.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Yet another memorable classic, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time follows our series main protagonist Link on a quest to stop Ganondorf from obtaining the Triforce, by travelling back and forth through time. With an expansive world which was impressive for its time, and engaging story, Ocarina of Time completely refined the action-adventure genre.
Why it’s Great for N64 Mini: Widely regarded as one of the greatest games of all time, its stellar storyline and immersive gameplay is perfect for both newcomers and longtime fans of the series. And while yes, this game has literally been included on every Nintendo console, I still think it’s important to include it on the Nintendo 64 mini as it offers an epic experience.
Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
Released months apart, Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is a darker, more complex sequel to Ocarina of Time. In this action-adventure game, Link has just three in-game days to stop Skull Kid, who is possessed by the dark allure of the Majora’s Mask and save the world of Termina from impending doom. The game uses time manipulation again, but differently this time, and tackles very dark subject matters that weren’t present in the previous game.
Why it’s Great for N64 Mini: With its unique mechanics and eerie atmosphere, Majora’s Mask offers a stark contrast to other N64 titles and is a fresh challenge compared to Ocarina of Time. Perfect if you’re seeking a more unconventional experience.
Banjo Kazooie
A beloved platforming gem on the N64, Banjo-Kazooie is a fun and colourful 3D platformer. Featuring a bear named Banjo and his bird friend, Kazooie; the game centres around the duo embarking on a quest together to rescue Banjo’s sister from the witch known as Gruntilda. Here, you explore many vibrant worlds, collect various items and interact with plenty of quirky characters throughout.
Why it’s Great for N64 Mini: Known for its humour, vibrant world and engaging gameplay, Banjo Kazooie is a classic that remains a fan favourite amongst retro gamers. Its well-crafted levels and unique character abilities make it a standout platformer of its time, making it a perfect addition for the N64 Mini.
Goldeneye
Goldeneye is a first-person shooter based on the best James Bond film. In this game, players take on the role of Bond, completing objectives in a series of missions, as well as engaging in multiplayer deathmatches. Although it doesn’t boast fun and colourful graphics commonly associated with the N64, it’s still a cozy retro game that’s loved by pure nostalgia addicts who like to relive their childhoods. I still remember watching another kid kill someone who had the golden gun with their bare hands. Pure mayhem.
Why it’s Great for N64 Mini: Quoted as being one of the best multiplayer shooters of its era, Goldeneye’s split screen mode is legendary, and would bring hours of competitive play to the N64 Mini, appealing to a wide audience, such as fans of the film and FPS enthusiasts alike.
Rugrats: Scavenger Hunt
Seemingly trying to mimic the impact that Mario Party had, Rugrats: Scavenger Hunt is a board game style adventure featuring characters from the beloved Nickelodeon show. In this cozy retro game, players navigate through different themed boards, competing in a few mini games whilst trying to collect items.
Why it’s Great for N64 Mini: It’s a family friendly game with simple controls and charming graphics based on the beloved TV show. Although it’s not as expansive as the PS1 classic, Rugrats: Search for Reptar, it’s great for younger players or those seeking a nostalgic, light-hearted gaming experience
Yoshi’s Story
A side-scrolling platformer, Yoshi’s Story lets players control different coloured Yoshi’s who are on a quest to restore happiness to their world by collecting fruits and battling enemies. It might not be a highly energetic platformer like Super Mario 64, but it still boasts the fun, colourful graphics that the series is known for.
Why it’s Great for N64 Mini: With its colourful graphics and cute, easy-going gameplay, Yoshi’s Story is a delight for all ages. Its simplicity and charm make it an excellent pick for the N64 Mini and is suitable for casual play. Also, who doesn’t love Yoshi?! He is freaking adorable.
Pokémon Snap
Redefining the genre that was popular in the 90’s, Pokemon Snap is a first-person rail shooter. Unlike games like House of the Dead, you don’t kill enemies to progress throughout the game, instead you photograph Pokemon in their natural habitats. The objective is to capture the best possible photos to earn points from Professor Oak.
Why it’s Great for N64 Mini: Pokémon Snap offers a unique twist on the Pokémon franchise. Its relaxing yet engaging gameplay provides a different kind of adventure, making it an appealing addition to the N64 Mini lineup. Perfect for newcomers and cozy retro gamers alike!
Pokémon Stadium
Taking a break from the traditional Pokemon formula, this N64 cozy retro game brings the battles from the handheld games to the big screen, allowing players to use their own teams in 3D, action packed battles- just like how we had imagined. There is also the option to break away from battles and compete with friends in a fair few, fun mini games.
Why it’s Great for N64 Mini: With its focus on strategy and nostalgia, Pokemon stadium appeals to fans who grew up with the series. It’s a great way to relive the thrills of classic Pokemon battles and enjoy competitive gameplay with friends on the N64 mini.
Mario Tennis
Mario Tennis is an arcade style tennis game featuring characters from the Mario universe. It offers both single player and multiplayer modes, with various courts and unique character abilities. It’s the perfect game to play if you’re looking to simply shut off from the stressful work week.

Harvest Moon 64
The series that kick started cozy gaming and influenced many of the games that we love today! Harvest Moon 64 is a farming simulation title where players manage a farm, cultivate crops, raise livestock, and interact with the townsfolk to build meaningful relationships.
Why it’s Great for N64 Mini: If you loved games like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon 64 is the perfect cozy retro game for you. As a peaceful and engaging simulation game, it provides a relaxing alternative to the action packed titles of that era, with its emphasis on farming and community life, making it a charming addition to the N64 Mini.
Paper Mario
It seemed like the 90’s was a very experimental year for the Mario franchise, as he dominated the retro gaming market with plenty of different genres. Paper Mario is a role playing game where Mario must collect seven Star Spirits to save the Mushroom Kingdom from Bowser. The game combines traditional RPG elements with a very distinctive paper aesthetic.
Why it’s Great for N64 Mini: With its very unique, charming art style and engaging turn based combat system, this cozy retro game offers a different kind of Mario adventure. The game’s depth and humour makes it a standout RPG, that is perfect for the N64 Mini.
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
Who doesn’t love Kirby? Kirby 64 is a platformer where our beloved pink character must collect shards of a powerful crystal to save his home planet. He can combine different abilities from enemies to create some truly unique powers. It’s yet another N64 game that needs to be appreciated.
