About a year ago, I had the opportunity of taking advantage of downloading many cozy games from Humble Bumble for less than £20. Included in that bundle were some amazing titles, such as Assemble with Care, Alba and Mail Time! The latter had been on my wishlist for a long time, and I finally got a chance to play it.
Recently, I had a bit of downtime, in between running my blog full time, working 5 days a week and somehow trying to maintain a household, to FINALLY play Mail TIme. So if you’re wondering whether or not you should get Mail Time for the Nintendo Switch or even Steam, then check out my review- hopefully it will determine whether or not Mail TIme is Worth it.
Review: Is Mail TIme Worth it?
At its core, Mail Time revolves around the simple but heartwarming concept of delivering mail to forest inhabitants. You play as a rookie Mail Scout, dressed in a cute mushroom hat and backpack, tasked with delivering letters and packages to the quirky characters scattered throughout the Grumblewood Grove. Armed with a trusty mailbag and a love for adventure, you traverse the serene woodland environment, meeting colourful residents and helping them solve problems, all while ensuring the mail reaches its intended recipient.
From the moment you start Mail Time, the art style immediately sets the tone for the cozy experience that awaits. The world you explore is vibrant and beautifully rendered, with a pastel palette that makes every scene feel like a children’s storybook come to life. The soft, hand-painted textures and charmingly exaggerated proportions of the landscape give the game a dreamlike quality, inviting players to get lost in its comforting beauty.
Complementing the visual design is the game's soothing soundtrack. The background music is soft and melodic, enhancing the peaceful ambiance of the forest while keeping players relaxed as they wander through the Grove. Subtle sound effects—like the rustling of leaves, chirping of birds, or the gentle splash of water—further immerse you in the natural beauty of the game’s environment.
One of Mail Time's greatest strengths is its cast of quirky, lovable characters. As a Mail Scout, you’ll encounter a variety of woodland creatures, each with their own distinct personality and backstory. From chatty squirrels to friendly frogs, each resident has something to share, and the letters you deliver often lead to heartwarming interactions.
While some characters request deliveries, others might need a little help with personal problems—whether that’s finding a lost item or cheering them up with a friendly conversation. These interactions form the emotional core of Mail Time, as you gradually form connections with the residents and help bring a little happiness into their lives.
The dialogue is witty and often humorous, full of puns and playful banter that endears the characters to the player. It’s easy to feel like you’re part of a tight-knit community, as every encounter adds depth to the world and makes you more invested in the lives of its inhabitants.
